Special trustees meeting Aug. 12, 2009

A special meeting of the Board of Township Trustees, Newbury Township was called to order August 12, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. with all trustees present.

Mr. Snively suggested that the liaison responsibilities be realigned.  He suggested that the Park Development responsibilities be added in to the Economic Development Liaison, the reasoning being that the Liaison for Economic Development should take into consideration the whole Township and that Park Development should be considered a part of that.  At this time that would mean that Mrs. Blair would also be the Park Development Liaison.  Mr. Skomrock motioned for the realignment; Mr. Snively seconded this motion, with a unanimous affirmative vote.

Mrs. Blair indicated that she would talk to all the people that have been involved up to this point, including Wheeler Landscaping, Trushel Excavating, and Rudy Schwartz.  She said she would get Wheeler and Trushel together and find out who would be responsible for fixing which parts of the fields.   She stated that would come up with a plan, to include all parks, and present it to the Trustees as soon as possible, so that they can decide what can still be done this year and what would have to wait until next year.

Mr. Snively thought that it might be a good idea for the board to reverse the decision to let the Geauga County Department of Community and Economic Development handle the park development and revisit the idea after Mrs. Blair had a chance to research and talk with all the people involved so far.  Mr. Skomrock motioned to reverse the decision, with a second by Mrs. Blair, and a unanimous affirmative vote.  Mr. Ober said that he looked back over the Park Board’s purpose and said that in the end it is the ultimate responsibility of the Trustees to make the decisions.  The Park Board will continue to make recommendations to the Trustees.  Mr. Ober also requested that in the planning that they consider a way to protect the Oberland Park from future development in the environmentally sensitive areas.    Mr. Ober also indicated that the next Park Board meeting would be on the 20th of August; the Trustees said that one of them would attend.

In other business Mr. Skomrock brought up a question regarding a letter received by a resident from First Energy about a different supplier.  It was stated that this communication comes as a result of the township’s decision to join the NOPEC electric aggregation group, and the rates were unknown, but that residents can call the 800 number on the letter to get more information.  A motion was made at 7:10 PM to adjourn by Mr. Skomrock, a second by Mrs. Blair, with a unanimous affirmative vote.
