Newbury Township Park Board

 

Meeting Minutes

November 12, 2015, Newbury Town Hall

Present: Judy Barnhart, Mark Fritch, Roger Mezak, Les Ober, Wayne Mansfield, Jim Stephancin

Guests: Glen Quigley

 

Meeting called to order at 7:40. Minutes of October meeting read and approved.

 

Board congratulated Glen on his reelection as trustee

 

Open board position: Glen will check on names submitted last time.

 

Eagle Scout projects

No scouts in attendance. Wayne took the Water bags off the trees and put in the furnace room

 

Oberland Park

Electrict didn’t pass inspection, needs to be fixed and will get inspected same day. Wayne attended the rec board meeting to see about getting half the money for fertilizing the soccer fields. Vlleyeball nets will come down next week after scouts use it this weekend. Porta poties also to be removed soon.

 

A plaque is needed for Oberland park for donations. Have $8-10,000 available for projects next year. Need to finish projects before starting on anything new. Suggestions included getting a Romtec installewd in place of porta potties. Should check into hooking up to the school septic system. Roger would like to square off the parking lot. Les suggested turning the ballfield into an amphitheater.

 

Jan and Glen have been in contact with with a group in Chagrin Falls that does concerts in the Park. Looking at dates for next year to hold at either Oberland or Veterans Park.

 

 

 

Rt. 87 and Auburn Corner/Veterans Park

Newbury Township received the $37,000 ODNR grant, just waiting on official approval from board and offial letter in writing befor spending the money. Engineering Endevours was told to weld the 2 pieces of the compression ring together then they will ship it to Newbury sandblasting for painting with paint donated by Sherwin Williams. Lumber is in at Carter Lumber. Contractor Bob Moon calls daily asking when he can start while its still warm. Sidleys will provide the block and concrete. Vets want to work on getting the track vehicle without help from trustees or park board.

 

Grang Park

Glen is meeting with Chuck Yates who is interested in the property.

 

200th Aniversary

Glen in contact with a woman who would like to put up three historical markers;Fullertowm, Interurban at Sperry road, old school house. 2017 will be the 200th anniversary of the township, discussed plans for celebrating, need to plan in 2016. Suggestions included walking the Interurban from the rookery to Restful lake, doing a cemetary tour, recognizing Newbury Civil War veterans, stagecoach stops, underground railroad in building a corner of Rt 87 and 44, Union Chapel, get Punderson involved as well. Put a committee together of people who would like to help with the park board

 

Next meeting: No meeting in December dur to the holidays

                        Next regular meeting Thursday, January 14, 2016 at town hall
