Meeting Minutes

March 10, 2016, Newbury Town Hall

Present: Judy Barnhart, Mark Fritch, Roger Mezak, Les Ober, Wayne Mansfield, Jim Stafancin

Guests: trustee, Carol Drabek


Meeting called to order at 7:35. Minutes of Febuary meeting read and approved with minor corrections.


Eagle Scout projects

No scouts in attendance


Oberland Park

ATV tracks were found between the fence and the road.

-Newbury Wetlabs day is scheduled for May 5th and 6th.

-Wayne brought in two  7” LED  light samples for the pavilion. They are very bright touch, hard to break and cost $29.00. Will wire for six lights install 2 and see how many are needed or if need larger lights.

-Les didn’t end up tapping the west woods bas it was a short sugaring season with early warmth

-A big maple came down in the hay field. Jim will cut up and use for firewood.

-A big widow-maker is hanging over the bench that overlooks the wetland and will need to come down.

-Les will bring a load of stone for the trail with a skidster

-A small trail is needed from end of the parking area around the corner to the field to access the trails and field

-Mike’s trees along the drive should be fertilized


Rt. 87 and Auburn Corner/Veterans Park

Glen out sick. Wayne gave Glen’s report. Glen picked up the Nature Works sign we need to post for the grant. We have the permit from the township but still need permit from the county. Once we get the county permit Bob Moon will start construction. There is a $1500 charge from the Chagrin River Watershed Partners to handle the grants and disperse the money. Glen is trying to get concrete and gravel. The car raffle money was used to pay the first bills. Glen will give a full report at the next meeting.



200th Anniversary

-Carol passed out an organizational plan she and Roger developed. It is broken down into 3 sub committees: 1. Accounting, 2. Promotion, 3. Events

-Budget being discussed at next trustee meeting. Glen needs to talk to Marcia about keeping the funds separate from other township funds and handling the finances.

-Carol looked on line for what other communities have done for their bicentennial possibilities include t-shirts and buttons to sell or give away, get Punderson to host a walk/run

There will be a free concert in the Park Tuesday evening, July 19, 2016 by the Chagrin Falls Historical Society. Discussion on the best location to host. Oberland Park would have more parking.

The Memorial Day parade could be the anniversary kick-off next year

-Roger would like to chair the picnic

-Over the spring and summer contact key people to get them committed

-Fen Fagan fire department contact, Ken Huster? American Legion contact

Get local restaurants to provide food for  a “Taste of  Newbury”

Get the 3 local churches involved

-Looked at dates to hold major celebration- decided on July 14-16, 2017.

-Carol checked for prices at the flag store: 3x5 is the standard size $110 per flag, 6 or more $96, 12 or more $60

-We have flag poles at town hall, fire department, Oberland Park, Veterans Park to hang flags

-Need to contact Kiwanis for their support

-Les suggested the Historical Engine Society which he is a part of could bring old-time tractors

-Have fire department bring their big trucks for kids to climb in.

-try and get a free concert planned for that weekend, Jan Blair has the contact.

-May need an alternate indoor location in case of bad weather.

-See if Glen wants to be a chair as he knows more about spending.
